Ármann Gylfason
Advancing Wind Energy Research
Dr. Ármann Gylfason, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Reykjavík University (RU), is a distinguished expert in thermal and fluid mechanics with a strong background in aeronautical and mechanical engineering. He holds a PhD (2006) and MSc (2003) in Engineering from Cornell University, and a BSc in Engineering from the University of Iceland (2000).

Since joining RU in 2006, Ármann has made significant contributions to engineering education and research. His work focuses on wind tunnel experiments and numerical simulations to advance the understanding of turbulent flows in nature and engineering processes. His recent projects include developing high-speed imaging technology for fluid mechanics and investigating wind turbine performance under challenging weather conditions.
As a professor and mentor, Ármann has taught engineering courses at all levels and supervised numerous students who have gone on to excel in both academia and industry. He also actively collaborates with leading researchers in Europe and the United States, maintaining a global perspective in his work.
"My goal as Dean is to foster innovation in teaching and research, ensuring that our students are equipped to tackle the challenges of tomorrow. At RU, we combine scientific rigor with interdisciplinary collaboration, creating opportunities for students to thrive in a rapidly evolving world."
